Music Downloads Take Over
As major record companies waste time and money in lawsuits to sue young kids for 'illegal' music downloads, not to mention the fact that most of these kids will never be able to pay the millions of dollars that they are being sued for, a person could wonder how long it will be before the stubborn companies realize that they must either adapt or go extinct. I always wonder, if the radio and television industry has always had a model of profiting by showing tv shows and letting people listen to music for free, why is it that the music industry in general can't do the same with the internet? But again, since they spend all their time trying to make their new profit model one that involves lawyers and never-ending lawsuits, then by the time they get smart and realize that this is one of the greatest opportunities as a result of changing trends in the music industry since the 60's. They will also cause their own extinction if they don't wise up and take advantage soon, because other internet companies are coming up and taking the model back to who it truly belongs to....the artists and the fans. When we really analyze things, it is easy to see that music artists and fans are truly who should be known as 'the music industry.' Somewhere along the way, that was forgotten, as the creative process was turned into a robotic assembly line operation where the 'suits and ties' took the 'cre' out of 'creative' and made it about quantity over quality. It could be argued that this 'strictly business' approach is to blame for the poor quality of a lot of today's music, which could also explain why fans are so quick to adopt the technology of music downloads and and file sharing, because they simply don't want to pay full price for a CD where there is only 1 good song, which is the song that lured them into purchasing the album. Today's new technology will allow independent artists who aren't controlled by the 'puppets' in suits and ties to be more creative and focus on making quality music that fans will enjoy and support. They will also be able to put this quality in the same marketplace as the major puppets, i mean artists, and do major damage on an independent budget. So the fact is, Major Labels must adapt to the changing trend, or watch their profits sink further and futher into the red. It's time to figure out a way to profit with music downloads, and free mp3s. It's quite possible that there could be a way to make just as much, if not more profits with this type of model, than with the standard CD sale model, and definitely more than the current method which allows fans to pay just for one song, which cuts profits compared to the sale of a full album. |
